Riders using Oakville Transit can now use their smartphones to pay for their fares, through PRESTO E-Tickets. 

The digital option was launched last year on Durham Region Transit and Hamilton Street Railway.  

It opens up a convenient way to pay, including for occasional transit users, as well as PRESTO customers who may leave home forgetting their physical card.

E-Tickets can be purchased, stored and activated all through the PRESTO E-Tickets app, available for download from the Apple app store or Google Play. Customers must activate the E-Ticket before boarding local transit and then scan the ticket’s QR code on a PRESTO device using the barcode reader. If customers download the e-ticket directly to a device, they don’t need to be on Wi-Fi or cellular data to use a ticket.  

For those new to PRESTO E-Tickets, the fare on Oakville Transit is the same as the PRESTO fare – the same is true for both Durham Region Transit and Hamilton Street Railway. The ticket is valid for travel on a single transit system only. Those transferring from Oakville Transit bus to GO Transit, for instance, you will need to buy a separate fare.

PRESTO E-Tickets can be used for families or groups travelling together, as passengers can purchase, activate and display multiple tickets all on one smartphone. 

Existing PRESTO E-Ticket users in Hamilton or Durham should make sure to update their PRESTO E-Ticket app soon. Enhancements to the app are rolling out, and users will need to download the updated version by Feb. 7 in order to continue using it.
