GO Train

Barrie Line GO Expansion

We're transforming GO Transit to bring more frequent two-way, all-day service to the Barrie Line.

Barrie Line GO Expansion

More stations, more service, more connections

Whether you’re in Toronto, York Region or Simcoe County, life can be busy. You’ve got a lot on your plate, and you’re looking for balance – you’re looking for easier ways to seamlessly get where you need to go. That’s what the Barrie GO line expansion will offer. We’re supporting the life you lead by bringing you all-day, two-way GO train service that fits your schedule. From Lake Simcoe to Lake Ontario and everywhere in between, we’ve got you covered.

GO service is expanding to serve you better, with more frequent service, more stations, cleaner technology and more connections. Metrolinx is transforming GO Transit to bring more frequent two-way, all-day service to the Barrie Line, up to every 15 minutes, seven days a week. Our goal is to deliver over 10,000 train trips a week - so you won't need a schedule because you know the next train will be coming soon.

Adding an extra track between Union Station and Aurora GO is a key part of our GO Expansion plans on the Barrie Line, with a goal of two-way all-day service up to every 15 minutes to Bradford GO.

Benefits

Connections

Step into a regional transit system that will take you anywhere you need to go across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. New stations like Downsview Park GO mean new connections to the subway in Toronto, while all-day service will connect you to the TTC, Barrie Transit, and YRT/Viva.

Growth

The goal is big: the GO Expansion program will see 80% of residents live within two kilometres of rapid transit. By building over 200 kilometres of new track and electrifying 600 kilometres of track across the region, the GO Expansion project will result in over 200 million boardings a year by 2040 across the GO rail network. We’re improving service now and into the future so transit will help York and Simcoe grow.

Opportunity

This project will bring opportunities like we’ve never had before. Whether you live in Barrie and commute to downtown Toronto for work, or take your kids to hockey practice in East Gwillimbury, or have enrolled in classes at York University, Barrie GO expansion will empower you to live the life you want to live.
