Truck Safety Plan overview

Safety is essential across all of Metrolinx’s projects and operations, guiding every decision and action we take. Building a nearly 16-kilometre, 15-station transit line through the heart of Canada’s largest city requires careful planning, coordination, and monitoring.

Recognizing the complexity and scale associated with the Ontario Line—and the volume of trucks in city— Metrolinx is taking the additional step of formalizing a Truck Safety Plan. The plan builds on the existing Traffic Control Plans we’ve developed in partnership with the City of Toronto and our contractors. We work with residents, municipal partners and contractors to put these plans in place for all projects.

With the Ontario Line Truck Safety plan, we are introducing additional education and training requirements for drivers and establishing enforcement measures to ensure drivers adhere to agreed-upon truck routes.

The plan is a living document that will be updated in collaboration with the City of Toronto and our contractors as construction progresses and priorities evolve. Working together, we have created a consistent framework for truck routing that can be adapted for other projects across the city.
