What is Happening?

Critical State of Good Repair works collectively aim to ensure the safety and reliability of Metrolinx’s rail network, as well as mitigate potential service disruptions and improve on-time performance, customer satisfaction and passenger comfort. To support maintenance along the Lakeshore West line, we will conduct cable replacement work for switch machines. The work is currently taking place within the rail corridor near Pirandello Street access gate. There is also 24/7 work scheduled to replace the switch machine during the major track closure weekend May 22nd-25, 2026.

 

 

What to expect

  • Construction lighting may be visible from the work site.

  • Where possible, lights from equipment will be positioned away from residential homes to keep light pollution levels low.

  • Increased presence of construction vehicles and equipment can be expected in the work area.

  • Work may be delayed or rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

  • This work includes the use of specialized equipment, such as a hydrovac truck, a small excavator and support vehicles to replace cables and maintain signal and safety systems in the rail corridor.
  • Approximately 6 trucks, including hydrovac, boom and crew trucks will be leaving site each day.

     

Traffic Changes

  • No disruptions to traffic are anticipated.

Pedestrian Access

  • All pedestrian sidewalks will remain open throughout the work.

Noise and Vibration

  • Residences and businesses in the area may experience noise and vibration caused by construction equipment related to this work.
  • Crews will take measures to minimize disruptions to the surrounding area wherever possible.
  • Residences and businesses in the area can expect noise and vibration caused by construction equipment related to this work.
  • Trucks accessing the site will be equipped with broadband backup alarms, which emit a less disruptive sound compared to traditional beeping backup alarms.

Transit Service

  • There is no anticipated impact to transit services.
