Toronto’s Union Station tests new lighting

Toronto is getting a bit brighter at night.
As work continues on Toronto’s Union Station – modernizing the important transit hub – officials are testing newly installed atrium lights.

Once testing is complete, the 71,0000-sq.ft. ‘glass jewel box’ atrium will be illuminated at night, visible from the offices and towers in the area. The section replaces the middle third of the train shed, to allow natural light to come it. It also means, at night, the complex pushes back against the darkness.

Here are some images, showing how the testing is going – or rather, glowing.
And if you’d like another angle, here’s an interesting daytime view inside the station, looking down at the platforms. In October of this year, the last of the platform ‘stage changes’ was completed – which means all platforms are open – allowing an unobstructed view through the train shed.
