the new PRESTO devices at UP Express

New UP Express PRESTO devices are here

PRESTO is installing new payment devices at all UP Express stations.

Technology is rapidly evolving, and PRESTO customers can continue to tap into it.

While many things slowed down over the last few months, the rollout of new PRESTO devices keeps going. New payment devices have been continuing to roll out across GO Transit and transit agencies in the 905 over the past months, and now they’re making their way to UP Express.

Over the coming weeks, all UP Express PRESTO payment devices will be upgraded with all new technology.

But with all new technology, it’s not only about the look and feel – it’s about getting the job done.

So what’s the big deal about these new UP Express devices?

In addition to the new look, the devices have an improved interface that makes them easier to read and interact with.

It’s also worth mentioning that these enhanced devices have a ‘Mode Button’ that can be used to either cancel a fare payment or – a new feature – query their card.  This new feature allows customers to see helpful information including their card balance and recent tap transaction history.

The new devices also have an ‘Audio Button’. This is related to the audio mode, which provides spoken instructions for customers with visual disabilities. The audio mode is accessed by inserting a 3.5mm headset jack into the receptacle to the right of the button. The Audio Button can be used to adjust the volume of the spoken instructions.

The new devices are designed to process one card at a time, so make sure you’re tapping only your PRESTO card against the designated spot on the reader to pay your fare – not your entire wallet filled with cards.

More good news. The new UP Express devices will be able to accept new payment options such as credit and debit cards in the near future. An open payment pilot is planned for later this year.

Customers will also notice a barcode reader, just below the card reader. Although this feature is not currently enabled, it means the device has the capability to accept barcoded e-tickets in the future.
