Mighty work continues on Hurontario LRT route over Hwy. 407

Talk about piling it on.
In the middle of a hot and humid Ontario summer, crews are working to add needed supports to carry the heavy load of the Hurontario light rail transit (LRT) route.
You can see the effort in these new images of pilings.

They’re part of work to widen the underpass at Highway 407 to create a new center and independent deck to carry the LRT guideway.

Prefabricated piles are driven into the ground using pile drivers. The piles, made out of structural steel, ensure the proper bearing capacity and performance of the foundations for the new extensions (East and West) of the center pier.
This is only one part of the widening of the underpass. More works are planned after the winter.
