Even as the snow falls and temperatures plunge, transit building continues.
But sometimes it requires a little extra warmth.
If you are driving along Hurontario Street and wonder what those orange tarps are for along the Hurontario light rail transit (HuLRT) route, here’s the answer.

They are a type of insulation, often called ‘frost blankets’.
These are secured to the walls of the maintenance and storage facility and along the roadways to keep concrete warm during the curing process and to protect shoring and soil from freezing while it’s being worked on.

It’s just one of the many clever ways that construction crews keep progress going in the depths of winter.
