Grab your PRESTO Hamilton - HSR is going paperless

Hamiltonians will soon say goodbye to paper tickets and passes and use PRESTO to ride city buses.

Jul 23, 2020

No more emptying pockets of crumpled transit tickets at the end of each day.

For those using public transit around Hamilton, the days of paper tickets and monthly passes are about to end. As of November 1, 2020, Hamilton residents will use PRESTO to get onto HSR buses.

Paper tickets and passes will stop being sold on October 31, 2020. After that time, customers can tap away with the funds and passes loaded onto their PRESTO card.

HSR will continue to accept paper tickets, bought in advance, until the end of the year.

The city of Hamilton was moving towards a paperless approach earlier this year and was supposed to end the sale of paper tickets and monthly passes at the end of June but the pandemic pushed the city’s plans until November.

PRESTO cards can be purchased and loaded with funds or passes in-person at any Shoppers Drug Mart or other customer service outlets, as well as at self-serve machines located at GO stations and terminals. Customers can also instantly load their card from home or wherever they are with the PRESTO app, available for iPhone and Android.
