Woodbine Avenue traffic impacts during bridge construction
Expanding the Woodbine bridge is one step to increasing service on the Lakeshore East GO Line.

Crews will be widening Woodbine bridge in Toronto’s east end starting in the new year.
By adding a span to the north side, the bridge will be able to accommodate a fourth track in the future.
This work supports more frequent service on the Lakeshore East GO Line, giving people more flexibility in their schedules.
By building on current tracks, the transit agency can improve infrastructure that will deliver faster, two-way, all-day, 15-minute rail service on core segments of the network.
There will be several stages of work, including overnight shifts and traffic impacts on Woodbine Avenue until winter 2023.
The traffic reconfiguration is necessary for crews to set up a safe work zone.

Work on the centre bridge pier – January 2023
Construction for the widening of woodbine bridge will involve construction, including Road indicators which will be in place for the duration of the lane reconfigurations and directional signage which will be installed.
Traffic and pedestrian changes are outlined below:
- Traffic heading both north and south on Woodbine Avenue between Danforth Avenue and Gerrard Street East will notice a lane shift. One traffic lane will be maintained in each direction.
- Bike lanes will be temporarily closed
- There will be no impact to pedestrians

Work on the east bridge abutment – March 2023
The next stage of work will involve crews working on the east side of the road. Traffic will be shifted to the west side of Woodbine Avenue.
A temporary pedestrian walkway will be installed to maintain access while Metrolinx widens the east bridge abutment.

Work on the west bridge abutment – July 2023
Once work on the east abutment is complete, crews will move to the west side of the road and start widening the west bridge abutment.
Traffic will be shifted to the east side of Woodbine Avenue. A temporary pedestrian walkway will be installed to maintain access.
Construction and equipment will be isolated between Danforth Avenue and Gerrard Street East.

Day and overnight work
Work on the centre bridge pier will occur during the day.
Work on the east and west bridge abutments will happen both during the day and overnight.
Day shift work will happen between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. Overnight work will happen between the hours of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday to Thursday.
