GO Transit 2025 highlights

The best milestones, moments and stories from across the GO network

Dec 18, 2025

More service and more stations to get you where you need to go, no matter where in the region you are. That’s the goal as we work to expand and extend GO Transit service and 2025 was one of our biggest years yet.

Transit is expanding now

2025 marked a significant year for GO Transit. We increased service across the board on multiple occasions, including the first-ever weekend service to Kitchener GO.

And on top of increasing service, we also supported you during some of the region’s biggest events this year including the Blue Jays’ World Series run and the opening of Rogers Stadium, where fans flocked to see Coldplay christen the city’s new venue. Throughout it all, our staff worked non-stop to be there for you and get you home safely.

More support for you

We strive to make taking transit as easy, convenient and affordable as possible for everyone. This year we brought GO bus service to the Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations. We also introduced free GO train and GO bus service for veterans and Canadian Armed Forces members, with the program extending to UP Express starting in 2026.

Programs like One Fare have saved transit riders up to $1,600 every year. And with PRESTO available on both Apple and Google devices in addition to the physical card itself, taking advantage of the program has never been easier.

More stations and connections

In Toronto’s west end, we opened Mount Dennis Station to GO Transit,  UP Express and TTC bus customers. The new station is located on the site of the old Kodak Canada factory and headquarters, where we were able to save an important piece of history and incorporate it into the station.

And in Hamilton, the brand new Confederation GO Station opened its doors, allowing for more service and choice amid growing regional demand.

This year also saw the start of major construction on the East Harbour Transit Hub in Toronto’s Riverside community. Once complete, the East Harbour Transit Hub will transform the region’s transit system, and is projected to become GO Transit’s second busiest station, connecting riders with GO Transit, TTC service and the future Ontario Line subway.

We also broke ground on two more future stops: Caledonia GO and Woodbine GO stations. And we’re actively working to make travel through Canada’s busiest travel hub even easier by upgrading platforms and more at Union Station.

One sweet fleet

Building new stations and running more service is one thing, but the aspect of the commute that impacts you directly is the vehicle itself that gets you where you need to go. Our iconic bi-level coaches have been a longstanding and recognizable part of the GO train journey since their introduction in the 1970s. The Ontario-built train cars continue to support the province through our refurbishment efforts that began this year. See how we keep our rail fleet running smoothly and reliably:

We’re also keeping things rolling on the road. Our expansive GO bus network is expanding to include the Winnipeg-built MCI D45 CRT bus. The low-emission coach is the latest generation of GO bus, featuring eco-friendly design, high tech safety, comfort and convenience for passengers and drivers.

As well, we made sure to honour Black History Month, Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month in a bright, bold way.

Expanding GO

These are just some of the many highlights this year from our ongoing work to expand and improve the GO Transit network. The region’s transit system is expanding now and into the future. With brand new lines and stations opening and more service on the way, the scale of progress is massive and can be seen across the region.
