Diversity & Inclusion

Metrolinx provides a safe and respectful workplace where employees are able to do their best work, free of harassment and discrimination. Our commitment to inclusion across race, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, persons with disabilities, identity and experience drives the work we do. Our goal is to reflect the customers and communities we serve, in all their richness and diversity. Employees can be their authentic selves at work and Employee Resource Groups are a safe space for members and allies.

Giving Back – Sustainability and Our Communities

We’re more than just a transit agency – we’re guided by our shared value of serving with passion.

It starts on a personal level - from team members leading fundraising events like Dress for Success, the Ride to Conquer Cancer and even our CEO running 10 half-marathons for the United Way - to larger scale initiatives as we design new, cleaner technologies, reduce resources in our own operations and offer environmentally friendly transportation alternatives.

Being a good corporate citizen is important to us, because we’re not just moving people, we are dedicated to building sustainable, resilient and safe communities for everyone.

Compensation, Benefits, Learning & Development

What’s important to you is important to us. That’s why at Metrolinx, we continually encourage a safe and positive environment where employees are recognized, valued and rewarded for their efforts.

We offer you more than just the basics and some “perks” – our Total Rewards program is comprehensive and varied.

Compensation

We believe a fair, equitable and competitive salary structure is key for each employee to feel confident and inspired to reach their full potential in everything they do. Pay equity is integrated into our hiring practices and we strive to recognize and value everyone’s commitment to serving with passion every day.

Benefits and Work-Life Integration

To keep our employees healthy and happy, we’re proud to offer comprehensive healthcare benefits, flexible work arrangements, a robust pension plan, an Employee Care Office and more, as proof of our commitment that your physical and mental well-being is a top priority at Metrolinx.

Learning & Development

For every employee to succeed and thrive at Metrolinx, we encourage learning, development and personal growth. We offer online and in-house employee and leadership development courses, mentorship programs, and job shadowing opportunities.

Read about why our employees enjoy working here:

Cassandra Walton, Senior Operation Controller – Rail Signals

My 2 years with Metrolinx has been nothing short of amazing. I started off as a Bus Operations Controller and in my short time with the company I made a lateral move to Rail Operations Controller and then to my current role as a Senior Operation Controller – Rail Signals. I still can’t believe the amount of opportunity there is for career advancement. The people who work for Metrolinx want you to succeed, making the work environment unlike any other I’ve experienced. Everyone is extremely supportive, inclusive and enjoyable to work with.

People should want to work for Metrolinx for the endless opportunities. In house development is always possible through the MX university – so many courses to choose from to expand your qualifications and skills. Work life balance is always taken into consideration with scheduling and not to mention the great pension!

Bonita Thompson, Transit Safety Officer

It is tough for women in law enforcement positions to “prove themselves” as capable of doing a job that has been male dominated for so long. I know that I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the women who came before me in this role. Part of the reason the transit safety officer position at Metrolinx was appealing to me was the fact that the compensation, treatment and expectations were the same for everyone doing the same job. I also work with a lot of great people who make my days enjoyable.

Tracee Lundie, Senior Procurement Officer Operations & Enterprise Asset Management, Finance/Procurement

Metrolinx is a great place to work! I have excellent leadership support within my team and feel that my role contributes to the values of the organization. Metrolinx shows interest in my professional development by offering online and in-house training sessions, along with a modest education reimbursement program. They value work/life balance and offer support programs if needed. I see myself in the future of Metrolinx.

Jan Richards, Manager, Consumer Experience Strategy, PRESTO

It’s gratifying to work for an organization that really does value safety, innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity. As a Metrolinx employee, it’s easy to see the positive impact of your work across the Greater Golden Horseshoe, whether it’s a GO train easing the commute, a new transit line under construction or transit riders tapping in with their PRESTO cards. It’s a great feeling! One of the interesting things about working at Metrolinx is the amount of press coverage we get. But even when the coverage is negative, I look at that as a testament to how important the outcome – high quality public transit - is to so many people, even people who don’t take transit themselves. I’ve worked with individuals and teams across the Metrolinx organization and I’m always impressed by their professionalism and dedication.

Wayne Carter, Manager, GO Expansion Early Works

I joined Metrolinx as a Project Coordinator back in 2006, 15 years later, I am a Manager within CPG and still love what I do. My job consists primarily of overseeing the design and construction of transit infrastructure, ensuring that capital projects are delivered on time and on budget. As someone who commutes via the GO Train every day, I have a firsthand understanding of what impact my work has on the public at large. I derive a true sense of satisfaction and accomplishment upon completion of a project, knowing that my hard work has contributed to a safer, more enjoyable commute for the customer.

Beyond the challenging and meaningful work we do at Metrolinx, what has kept me here over the years are the strong interpersonal relationships I have forged. Many of my work colleagues have become personal friends outside of the work environment. Several of them even attended my wedding. From the outside looking in, we appear to be your typical government agency. However, upon closer inspection, you’d be pleasantly surprised to discover that Metrolinx is a welcoming family environment.

Laura Soderman, Project Manager, GO Expansion Project Delivery

Metrolinx is a great place to work. Challenging projects, multi-disciplinary teams and a supportive culture with plenty of opportunity for growth continue to keep me engaged and motivated.
