What to know about PRESTO’s new option to tap your credit card
Tapping with the right card is more important than ever.

Customers travelling on GO, Brampton, MiWay, Oakville Transit and UP Express can pay for their transit fare with just a tap of their credit card (and tap off on GO & UP).
You can now tap a physical credit card or the cards on your phone or smart watch for a convenient and easy payment option on transit.
Here are a few key reminders for customers considering this new option to pay their transit fare.
1. Tapping with your credit card
Customers can tap their credit card on PRESTO devices when travelling on GO Transit, UP Express, as well as Mississauga’s MiWay, Brampton Transit, and Oakville Transit.
When travelling on GO Transit or UP Express, customers will need to remember to tap on and off with that same card (or method).
2. Take that card out to tap
Similar to buying that morning coffee, you wouldn’t tap your entire wallet to pay.
PRESTO devices are just like any payment system, so if you tap with multiple payment cards the machines may pick up the one closest to it.
Whether tapping on with your PRESTO card, credit card or those cards on your phone or smart watch, remember to remove the card from your wallet, purse or phone case. This ensures you are paying with the right payment card.
Remember to do the same when tapping off at your destination if travelling on GO Transit or UP Express.
Just like with a PRESTO card, you may be charged either a distance-based fare or a flat fare depending on what transit agency you’re travelling on.
On GO Transit and UP Express, your fare will be based on the distance of your trip.
This is calculated when you tap off at the end of your journey so be sure to use the same method of payment when you disembark. On GO Transit, you may have a default set on your PRESTO card, in which case, you don’t need to tap off if you’re travelling your default route.
For journeys with other transit partners (other than GO and UP), you just need to tap once when starting your trip as they charge one flat fare.
In some cases, you may get a discount if you continue to use a PRESTO card.
Check before you ride to determine the payment option that’s right for you.
If your trip requires you to transfer to a different transit agency, be sure to check ahead if the PRESTO devices accept credit card.
If not, you will have to use a PRESTO card or another accepted payment method upon transferring.

There’s plenty still in the works to make paying for transit even easier.
Debit card payments and availability on additional transit partners are coming soon.
In the meantime, PRESTO is giving riders more choice and convenience wherever they may climb aboard.
