Port Credit GO is a busy station on a normal day, transporting the residents of southern Mississauga on their daily commutes.

Which is why it has been the focal point of so much work in the past year, with scheduled construction still to come.

Upon completion of the Hurontario LRT, Port Credit GO will connect the Lakeshore West Line with the Hurontario LRT, which will run north-south, connecting Brampton and Mississauga.

This transit connection will be improved further by the GO Expansion program, which will improve service across the GO network. To facilitate GO Expansion, upgrades to stations and platform infrastructure across the GTHA have been fast-tracked to ensure safety and accessibility is in place as service is increased.

Accessibility Upgrades

Work to make Port Credit GO more accessible and safer began in August 2020 with upgrades to the east ramp, followed by repairs to the island platform in September and the installation of yellow tactile safety tiles on both platforms starting in October and November.

Construction of a new accessibility ramp on the west side of the south platform also began in the fall of 2020 and is still under construction. When construction is complete later this spring, the ramp will offer customers a connection between the bus loop and the south platform.

The elevator to the south platform was shutdown at the beginning of 2021 for important upgrades and is expected to open this spring. Once the south platform elevator is back in service, upgrades to the island platform elevator will begin in the spring. These are important and necessary upgrades as the elevators are nearing the end of their lifespan. This work will result in the complete shutdown of the elevator on the island platform, which will make this platform inaccessible for customers with accessibility needs.

Shuttle service will be available for customers who require accessible service. These accessibility enhancements are an integral part of the GO Expansion, which will bring 15-minute service throughout the day on the Lakeshore West Line.

Getting ready for the Hurontario LRT

Port Credit GO has also seen the beginning of construction for the Hurontario LRT, which is expected to begin operations in late 2024.  

The Hurontario LRT station will be located adjacent to the Port Credit GO and will provide connections to the Milton GO Line via Cooksville GO, Brampton Transit, MiWay and Square One. 

Weekend Construction

Port Credit will be an important station for Lakeshore West customers in the months to come as major track work continues on GO Transit’s busiest line.

Beginning in the evening of March 12 until the morning of March 14, 2021, there will be periods where Lakeshore West train service will be suspended between Port Credit GO and Union Station, to allow for important track upgrades.

Throughout that weekend, customers travelling on the Lakeshore West line will have to transfer between the Lakeshore West train and GO buses at Port Credit GO, which will then travel directly to the new Union Station Bus Terminal.

Long Branch GO, Mimico GO and Exhibition GO will not have any service while this track work is being done. Shutting down sections of the track for construction is necessary to make important upgrades to aging rail infrastructure which will improve train speeds, service life and reliability, in order to provide better service in the future.

This important track upgrade project will require further weekend service adjustments in April and May over the holiday weekends.

Moving forward

As cities expand, frequent and reliable transit will become increasingly important. The electric-powered Hurontario LRT is paving the way for increased connections, reducing traffic while also reducing carbon emissions.

The early works for GO Expansion is simultaneously improving accessibility and safety features at stations across the entire GO network. The Lakeshore West line will see further temporary service changes over holiday weekends in April and May to allow for repair and upgrade of key sections of the track to support the GO Expansion and improved service for all GO customers.
