What to expect: Pre-construction surveys
If eligible, you may receive a letter to book a free survey
Aug 17, 2026
As work continues on the Ontario Line, you may receive a letter from Metrolinx about booking a pre-construction survey of your property.
These surveys are a routine part of building large transit projects. They help us understand and document the condition of nearby properties before major work begins. The surveys are optional and offered at no cost.
If you receive a letter and accept the offer, a qualified team will carry out a detailed inspection of your property, typically documenting both the interior and exterior. This creates a record that can be compared before construction starts and after it’s complete.
Not every property along the route will receive a survey offer. Surveys are focused on areas where certain types of work – including piling and tunnelling – may generate higher levels of vibration.
As different contractors start new phases of transit construction, you may receive a survey offer even if work has already been underway in your neighbourhood. You may also receive offers to complete more than one survey related to the project.
If you do receive a letter, it will include details on how to book your survey and what to expect.
