Metrolinx is turning an unforeseen obstacle into an opportunity for improvement.

While ridership remains low due to the ongoing pandemic, the transit agency is replacing weekend and midday trains during the week on the Stouffville GO corridor with buses, in order to accelerate critical infrastructure work.

The intense construction work will go on throughout the summer and will help Metrolinx increase capacity, improve communications, and service reliability as part of the broader GO Expansion project.

Similarly, off-peak GO train service on the Barrie line will continue to be replaced by buses in order to speed up construction on the Davenport Diamond Grade Separation project.

Stouffville line bus and train info

For customers looking to take Stouffville line train service, these train trips will continue to run as usual:   

• The 5:14, 6:14 and 7:14 a.m. southbound trips from Lincolnville GO to Union Station
• The 4:31, 5:31 and 6:31 p.m. southbound trips from Mount Joy GO to Union Station
• The 3:15, 4:15 and 5:15 p.m. northbound trips from Union Station to Mount Joy GO
• The 6:15, 8:15 and 9:15 p.m. northbound trips from Union Station to Lincolnville GO

All other trains during weekdays and weekends will be replaced by buses. Metrolinx says GO customers along affected lines should plan ahead since the schedule of the replacement buses is different than the regularly scheduled train times.  Another thing to keep in mind, replacement GO buses will not stop at Kennedy GO, Agincourt GO or Milliken GO. The transit agency is recommending GO customers take the TTC to get where they need to go.

Safety Never Stops

Customer safety is Metrolinx’s top priority. More than 40 new safety measures have been introduced since the start of year and continue to thoroughly clean and disinfect trains, buses, and stations every day. Metrolinx is also asking customers to help keep everyone safe by following the guidance of public health officials and use a face covering when on transit.
