VIDEO: Hurontario LRT storage facility takes shape

Construction crews have continued to work bringing new transit to the communities in Peel Region.

May 19, 2021

It’s not just spring birds enjoying the bright and clear skies.

In the latest Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) project video, take a look at the progress that’s been made at the Operations, Maintenance and Storage Facility (OMSF).

Though yes, you will notice some of the clips contain the last lingering covering of snow, as they’ve been compiled to give a good overview of all the important angles.

Hurontario LRT: Operations Maintenance Storage Facility

The 10,634 square metre OMSF is located just south of Highway 407 on the border of Brampton and Mississauga. The facility will house 42 Alstom light rail vehicles (LRV), a vehicle repair shop, material storage and cleaning facility.

The facility, which started construction in 2020, is taking shape with most of the structural steel and masonry work complete.

Later this Spring, installation of the guideway system construction will start, which includes laying the foundation for the trackwork and the overhead catenary system cables that will power the LRVs. Expect to see the first sign of track during installation this Fall.
