Safety reminder after road rage incident on Hurontario LRT route

Metrolinx asks people to be courteous after recent incidents involving drivers harassing workers.

Dec 7, 2021

Metrolinx is reminding the public to take their time when travelling through construction zones following recent road rage incidents on Hurontario Street in Peel Region.

Recent situations have occurred on construction sites along the Hurontario LRT route in Mississauga and Brampton where drivers have threatened construction workers.

The transit agency acknowledges construction can be frustrating, but there’s no excuse for verbally or physically harassing anyone simply trying to do their job.

Metrolinx and Mobilinx – the Hurontario LRT project constructor – have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or violence of any kind, and work tirelessly to ensure workers have a safe work environment.

Mobilinx has employed the help of Peel Regional Police to continue to keep staff and the public safe at work sites. Fines and penalties will be issued to anyone caught engaging in unsafe or illegal behaviour.

Watch the new video featuring from Stewart Day, Mobilinx’s health and safety director.

“No matter the industry, employees should always feel safe at their workplace. Like you, crews have families and friends that care about them and it’s important that they get home safely after each shift, says Stewart Day, Mobilinx health and safety director.

“Safety is a shared responsibility by us all, and it takes a community approach to keep crews, drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians safe.”

Metrolinx and Mobilinx ask that drivers be patient and avoid any type of harassment towards construction crews and make sure to report any incidents that may be witnessed. Continue to obey all safety and detour signage posted around construction sites as they are there to help get everyone home safe.
