Metrolinx adjusting GO and UP schedules due to staff illness
August schedule changes will give a more reliable experience that matches available crews.
Aug 12, 2022
GO Transit and UP Express customers should check their schedules before leaving home as Metrolinx adjusts some August service.
The schedule adjustments are due to staff illnesses – which is resulting in a shortage of crews to operate GO and UP Express trains.
GO and UP changes
Starting Aug. 12, UP Express will run every 30 minutes, seven days a week.
Also starting Aug. 12, GO Transit customers will see some minimal and temporary weekday adjustments to some Lakeshore West and Richmond Hill Line GO Train trips.
On weekends, there will be some adjustments to Barrie and Stouffville Line GO Train service.
Is my usual trip changing?
Additional weekly GO Transit schedule changes will be communicated to customers the week before their service is adjusted.
Customers can stay in the loop by signing up for On the GO alerts and checking the GO and UP Express websites before heading out.
While these changes are temporary, the transit agency says it appreciates customers’ understanding and patience. Metrolinx is working to minimize delays and impacts to people’s travel plans.
Next steps
In the short-term, these adjustments help provide customers with more advanced notice of changes to their travel plans.
Looking ahead, dozens of crew members are going through a rigorous and safety-focused training program. Metrolinx expects these crews to become available to operate GO and UP Express trains this fall, allowing the agency to incrementally add more service.
While additional service adjustments may still be required, Metrolinx says it will provide as much notice as possible if more last-minute changes are needed.
