The Hurontario light rail transit (LRT) project continues to make impressive progress along the Hurontario Street corridor – with its central vehicle building taking shape.

The future Operations, Maintenance and Storage Facility (OMSF) has come a long way from being a plot of land. Located just south of Highway 407 on the border of Brampton and Mississauga, the exterior of the 10,634 m² building is nearing completion.

Here are some shots that give you a good idea of how it’s coming along.

Inside the building, crews are working on fireproofing, stair installation and construction of the maintenance pit and wash bay facility. These are the areas where the light rail vehicles will be serviced and cleaned. Upon completion, the facility will have interior space for 42 light rail vehicles.

Outside the building, work continues to prepare the ground for the installation of track. This includes utility work and the installation of the ballast and overhead catenary system foundation work. The first set of tracks is expected to be installed later this year.
