Look out – full-length vehicles for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT are hitting the streets.  

That means three cars, and a capacity of almost 500 people. 

This marks a major step forward for the project. Now, full-length LRVs are travelling along the route, which will be an operating standard during regular service. 

In previous tests, vehicles have hit top speeds along underground and street-level parts of the route. But this round of testing is the first time the three-car trains have travelled along the line. 

Three-car testing began in early July, as part of project-wide testing.  

The aim is to not only debut the three-car trains, but also to test the signaling and train control system.  

During this phase of the project, the LRVs and train control system run together from end-to-end. This is an essential step in the testing process, as it ensures reliability, maintainability, and safety.

In addition to LRV testing, multiple Crosstown stations have been coming along.

One of these is Kennedy Station, located at the east end of the line. At the station’s main entrance, interlocking pavers – a tough and durable pavement material – are now installed.

At Laird Station, the interior has made significant progress.

The sign band lighting installations are now underway, in preparation to set up station signage.

Safety is important during testing

With vehicle testing ramping up, Metrolinx and Crosslinx are reminding everyone to be careful while LRVs are running along Eglinton Avenue.

Always follow all traffic signals, remember to be careful of the tracks, and only make left turns where it’s safe to do so.
