Scarborough Subway Extension

Extending Line 2 subway service 7.8 km farther into the heart of Scarborough.

Tunnel launch shaft

The launch shaft is where Diggy Scardust, the tunnel boring machine (TBM) began its journey excavating the project's 6.9-kilometre tunnel. The site is located just north of Highway 401 at Sheppard Avenue East and McCowan Road and will be converted into the future Sheppard and McCowan Station once tunnelling is complete.

Work began on the launch shaft in 2021, with the first pieces of the TBM arriving at the site in 2022.
