That was certainly a year – with an even more impressive one to come.

The Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit (LRT) line had its fair share of important milestones in 2021.

From final track installation, the installation of all of the stop shelters, the delivery of light rail vehicles to the east end and vehicle testing, the project made headlines for Metrolinx News and mainstream news outlets.

With the project nearing the end, 2022 will bring many of its own milestones.

Many have seen the vehicles running up and down Eglinton Avenue East. Vehicle testing work will expand into the new year, with the light rail vehicles running the entirety of the line between the Eglinton Maintenance and Storage Facility in the west and Kennedy Station in the east.

Installation of the surface stops in the east were complete in 2021. In 2022, Crosstown stations will start to reach completion.

Lane occupancies within the station vicinities will end through the year, bringing traffic back to normal. This also means that roads will continue to be resurfaced and lines will be repainted.

There will be 11 kilometres of bike lanes to be installed between Weston Road and Kennedy Road, as well as landscaping around new station entrances.

Terrific progress has been made on the Crosstown and crews continue to work diligently to reach substantial completion of the project by the end of 2022.
