Running low on hand sanitizer as you head to GO or UP Express?

There’s a vending machine for that – and more.

Metrolinx has introduced new safety vending machines that dispense personal protective equipment, like face coverings and disposable gloves, to help keep travellers safe throughout their journey. The first two machines are located at Oakville GO Station and Union UP Express Station in the SkyWalk.

They’re part of Metrolinx’s ‘Safety Never Stops’ program.

Customers can purchase several different products. There are disposable face coverings and reusable face coverings (for adults and kids), disposable gloves, hand sanitizers and touchless keychains, which means you don’t have to touch an elevator button ever again. These personal protective equipment vending machines also offer organic hypo-allergenic face coverings with a band to wear around the neck.

If you’re wondering about the pricing of these items, a ten pack of disposable face coverings will cost you $9.99, a travel size hand sanitizer bottle $3.49 and the touchless keychain goes for $6.99.

All of the items within the vending machines are individually wrapped.

Customers can purchase the products through cashless payment options, including credit, debit, and mobile wallets.

These vending machines are being rolled out as a part of a pilot, and Metrolinx expects to introduce them at additional stations in the coming months.

Part of a larger level of safety.

Metrolinx has implemented more than 40 measures to help keep customers and staff safe.

This includes installing seat dividers on GO trains and buses and providing hand sanitizer dispensers on every GO bus and at every GO Transit and UP Express station. Metrolinx has also introduced health and safety kiosks at several GO stations to provide safety tools and information. Read more about safety measures here.

Face coverings are mandatory when travelling on GO and UP Express – and they are the best way to help stop the spread of germs.  So, if you see one of the new vending machines, you can add more face coverings to your ever-growing collection.
