One of GO Transit’s newest stations can now add award winner to its list of achievements.
The City of Oshawa recently announced the Oshawa GO/VIA Station as the recipient of an Award of Excellence at the 2018 Urban Design Awards ceremony.
The station, one of the busiest on the GO network, was given the honour by the city for demonstrating excellence in urban design, as well as enhancing the image of the city and quality of life.
As part of the design, lots of natural light is allowed through perimeter canopies to the north of the main waiting areas, which also makes it easier to heat and cool the building. There is also an energy efficient in-floor heating system.
The building and canopy are contemporary in style and include materials such as brick, metal panels, glass and wood.
In addition to receiving an Award of Excellence from the City of Oshawa, the Oshawa GO/VIA project is eligible to participate in the 2018 National Urban Design Awards Program administered by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
