New video shows LRT work right below Eglinton TTC station

See remarkable advances that mean the TTC tunnel is held in place as Crosstown work continues below.

Jun 4, 2020

It’s a beautiful day in Toronto, but the more impressive view is deep below the city.

At the corner of Yonge and Eglinton, Crosstown’s Eglinton Station reached an important milestone last week where the team completed the underpinning process. Underpinning involves reinforcing the existing TTC station so that work on the new station can continue even deeper below.

Check out this latest video that takes you below Eglinton Station to see the completed underpinning process. With this work complete, the TTC tunnel is effectively secured in the air, allowing excavation to continue underneath.

In 2019, constructor Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS), installed the first massive support girder for the underpinning operation at the site. After carefully working to ensure that work did not disrupt the operational subway above, weight was successfully transferred to the ‘needle beams’ under the Line 1 subway tunnel in late May, completing the cradle of supports.
