Union Station Enhancement VR Event

Improvements at Toronto’s iconic transit hub continue

GO customers get a first-hand look at Union Station’s future concourse.

Feb 21, 2023

Work at Union Station is being completed to bring two-way, all-day rail service every 15 minutes or better along core segments of the GO network as part of GO Expansion.

The latest improvements as part of the Union Station Enhancement Project (USEP) are well underway and include:

  • Wider GO train platforms with canopies and new tracks, which will improve customer experience and allow for increased service levels across the network as trains move through the station faster and more efficiently.
  • More stairs and elevators to access platforms, and both teamways to get you to and from new platforms faster and easier.
  • A new south passenger concourse spanning from Bay to York Streets will have convenient open concept connections into the York, VIA, and Bay Concourses, Union Square and Scotiabank Arena and retail levels below.

Customer appreciation event

A customer appreciation event was recently held at Union Station with members of the project team on hand to answer questions about the project and explain how the improvements will benefit GO Transit customers and frequent visitors to the station.

Event GO-ers were able to explore a 3D model of the future south concourse and navigate the new, wider platforms planned as part of the project through virtual reality technology.

With these improvements, GO will better serve the thousands of passengers who move through Union Station each day providing faster, safer, and more accessible transit.
