After a successful first weekend, the GO-VAXX mobile buses are heading to York Region, Hamilton, and Etobicoke.

Metrolinx is supporting the province’s efforts to get as many people vaccinated as possible by transforming two GO buses into mobile vaccination clinics.

The two familiar green GO buses – known as GO-VAXX buses – are going to various community hubs and gatherings in the Greater Golden Horseshoe and beyond throughout August and into the fall, offering vaccines to anyone aged 12 and over.

The first stop for the vaccine clinic on wheels was Canada’s Wonderland this past weekend and the strong uptake was great news to organizers from the province and Metrolinx.

Having the unique GO-VAXX bus at the country’s most well-known amusement park drew a lot of attention from media. The bus even made it onto CBC News – The National so Canadians across the country heard about the mobile vaccine clinics. CP24 also spent a good part of the weekend covering the GO-VAXX and speaking to people rolling up their sleeve.  

The GO-VAXX program reached people of all ages who had not been able to get fully vaccinated and those who have been reluctant so far.

An impressive 150 people – nearly 50% of whom received their first dose – took a seat on the bus and received the vaccine to protect them and others from the worst consequences of COVID-19 such as serious illness and hospitalization.

Over 20% were young people aged 12-17.

Mobile vaccination clinics  are in addition to the over 40 safety measures put in place on GO Transit and UP Express to keep both staff and customers  safe.

The vaccine is one of the most critically important ways to keep everyone safe and is a key step in people returning to their normal commute and lives. Every shot delivered during this last leg of the pandemic helps get us all closer to normal – and that will be a thrilling ride.

Next on the list is Sutton, Richmond Hill, Hamilton and then the Ontario Food Terminal in Etobicoke.
