Science is building fast.
At least when it comes to construction of the Science Centre Station, which will be a major stop for the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit project.
A look at how the Science Centre Station looks today, after the recent installation of structural steel, along with a rendering of how it will look when open in 2021.
The Crosstown connection recently hit a milestone with the installation of structural steel – they look like ribs – above ground for the main structure. Moving forward, we’ll begin to see the entrance building take shape.
Located at the intersection of Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East, Science Centre Station will be a mobility hub, linking passengers to a bus terminal that will include seven bus bays for TTC bus connections.
Construction for Science Centre Station began in 2016 with piling and utility relocations. The station is being constructed using the cut-and-cover method, meaning that excavation occurs below the roadway while traffic flows overtop.
Two portals, about 400 metres long, will sit at either side of the station allowing the light rail vehicles to travel in and out of the underground station, keeping them away from the busy intersection above.
Right now, the station is rising to the occasion.
