The Scarborough Afro-Caribbean Festival offered up plenty of music, dance, food and a little bit of wet weather over the weekend. Standing out among the activities, though, was a large green mascot with plenty to offer about future transit in the area.

GO Bear was on hand at the Scarborough Civic Centre to help provide more information about GO Transit expansion. The Metrolinx community events team spoke with festival-goers and answered questions about plans for Scarborough. The use of PRESTO was also top of mind for many transit customers as well.

“The rain was a challenge, but we still had a good turnout,” said organizer Madeline Nwokeji. “We are so happy to have Metrolinx at the event this year. The GO bear was a hit with the kids!”

The Scarborough Afro-Caribbean Festival was started in 2012 in an effort to promote artists, local businesses and encourage different communities to come together. This year’s theme was “Celebrating Our Diversity,” with dozens of local vendors attending, along with live performances featuring African and Caribbean cultures.
