Birchmount and Ionview Crosstown stops pave the way

Metrolinx News is checking in with each of the Crosstown stations to highlight progress.

Let’s spend some more time outside, before we go below.

As we inch our way closer to descending into the earth again on the Crosstown progress tour, and reach our final destination, it’s clear that a lot of work has been done for the new transit line. But there’s still a bit more to go down the line.

Birchmount and Ionview are our next two surface stops heading eastbound along the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit (LRT) line.

The Crosstown stop at Birchmount will be a surface level stop. The accessible stop will be a parallel side platform, with the stop located on the east side of the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East and Birchmount Road.

Roadway paving work and widening has already begun, with guideway work to begin later this summer.

Just a few blocks east is Ionview stop. Similar to Birchmount, Ionview will also be a surface level accessible stop with a parallel side platform. The stop will be located on the west side of the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East and Ionview Road. Work for Ionview will begin in 2020.

An artist concept looks down on the surface platform, with plenty of greenery around.

Both Birchmount and Ionview platforms will include a covered waiting area with benches and automated Presto payment machines to pay your fare before you board.

With that, we start to pack up our things as we head back below surface and ride to our final stop. In our next feature – prepare to go below again.
