What is Happening?

To accommodate future construction of the Yonge North Subway Extension, crews will be demolishing six residential buildings on Steeles Avenue and Nipigon Avenue. The following properties that are set to be demolished are: 7, 9, 11, and 13 Steeles Avenue East, and 8 and 10 Nipigon Avenue. This work is needed to make space for construction materials and equipment for tunnelling work and to build the future Steeles Station.

What to expect

  • Trucks and construction equipment may generate dust during construction.
  • Crews will take precautions to monitor and reduce dust.
  • Increased presence of construction vehicles and equipment can be expected in the work area.
  • Work areas will be clearly marked or fenced off to ensure public safety.
  • Please exercise caution around active construction sites.
  • Work may be delayed or rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Occasional weekend work may be required 

 

Traffic Changes

  • The alleyway behind the work area will be closed to traffic during construction.  
  • Signage will be posted to redirect pedestrians and traffic. 

Pedestrian Access

  • Pedestrian detours may be required, with signs in place to direct pedestrians as needed.

Noise and Vibration

  • Crews will take measures to minimize disruptions to the surrounding area wherever possible.
  • Residences and businesses in the area can expect noise and vibration caused by construction equipment related to this work.
  • To minimize noise impacts on the community, noise monitoring equipment will be installed prior to construction. These devices will help to detect exceedances early to proactively conduct corrective actions as needed while crews work.
