What is Happening?

To facilitate ongoing construction of the Ontario Line Exhibition Station, crews must install new water lines. Full water service will be restored for daytime usage. Work will take place within the Ontario Line Exhibition Station worksite, and at the Ontario Line Dufferin Avenue gates. 

 

Work is starting as early as August 4, 2026, though water shut offs will not begin until end of October. Metrolinx will reach out in advance to confirm dates closer to the shut offs. Dates to be confirmed one month prior to shutting off. 

What to expect

  • Construction lighting may be visible from the work site.

  • Where possible, lights from equipment will be positioned away from residential homes to keep light pollution levels low.

  • Crews will take precautions to monitor and reduce dust.

  • Residents are encouraged to:

    • Store water for drinking, toilets, and personal use ahead of the scheduled water shutoff.

    • Finish laundry, showering, cleaning, and other tasks that need water before the scheduled shutoff.

    • Take necessary precautions to protect any equipment that may be affected by the water shutoff.

  • Work may be delayed or rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

  • Approximately 2 trucks will leave the site each day to move materials overnight. In certain circumstances, trucks may need to operate during the day.

  • Trucks leaving the site will use Dufferin Avenue.

  • Trucks entering the site will use Dufferin Avenue.

  • Northbound sidewalk closure at the Ontario Line Dufferin Street Gates.

Traffic Changes

  • No disruptions to traffic are anticipated.

Pedestrian Access

  • Temporary sidewalk closures or pedestrian detours will be in place while the work is underway, with signs in place to direct pedestrians as needed.
  • Pedestrian detours may be required, with signs in place to direct pedestrians as needed.

Noise and Vibration

  • Residences and businesses in the area may experience noise and vibration caused by construction equipment related to this work.
  • Crews will take measures to minimize disruptions to the surrounding area wherever possible.
  • To minimize noise impacts on the community, noise and vibration monitoring equipment will be installed prior to construction. These devices will help to detect exceedances early to proactively conduct corrective actions as needed while crews work.
  • Trucks accessing the site will be equipped with broadband backup alarms, which emit a less disruptive sound compared to traditional beeping backup alarms.

Transit Service

  • There is no anticipated impact to transit services.
