Ontario Line

A new 15.6-km subway line in Toronto that will run from Exhibition Place, through downtown, all the way to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT at Don Mills Road.

Have your say: name the first two Ontario Line tunnel boring machines

Be part of transit history! Here’s your chance to make your mark on Toronto’s newest subway line.

The first two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) have arrived in Canada and we need your help to name them!

These titans of tunnelling  will dig the tunnels in the southern – or downtown – portion of the Ontario Line between just east of Exhibition Station and just west of the Don River.

Naming the TBMs

Do you think you have a winning suggestion? Please review the contest rules and fill out the form below to suggest a name before June 23, 2025.

Need some inspiration? Think about local landmarks and history, famous people and places, or something unique about the communities these TBMs will travel through. Since there are two TBMs, submissions can also include pairs of related names.

After the submission period closes, a short list of names will be posted here, and you’ll be able to vote for your top choice! Winners of the naming contest will be credited and have the chance be part of a photo-op with these mammoth machines at the TBM tunnel launch shaft.
