Track work underway at Union Station

Further progress will support the future of GO Expansion.

Nov 16, 2023

Metrolinx is completing investigative work across the GO network to support the design of the On-Corridor Works (OnCorr) project – the largest project within the historic GO Expansion program

Over the past few months at Union Station, customers might have seen crews conducting some of this work in the York, Bay and VIA concourses.

And now, this work is moving up to track level.

What work is going on and why is it necessary?

Union Station has served the Greater Golden Horseshoe for nearly 100 years. Modifications are being completed to support the faster, more frequent service that will be delivered in the years ahead

Teams are carrying out structural assessments at Union Station. Their findings will provide important insights to Metrolinx and ONxpress (Metrolinx’s delivery partner for the OnCorr portion of GO Expansion) that inform the OnCorr project’s design stage – a key component of the Development Phase.

This work will provide customers a less-crowded, enhanced passenger experience at Union Station with easier access to new concourses and wider platforms.

What can customers expect at Union Station during this work?

Starting in November 2023, customers may notice temporary platform closures while work is being completed, which is expected to take place over the following weekends, as well as a third weekend in early 2024:

Nov. 17 – 20: Moderate impacts to widths of Platform 6/7 and Platform 8/9. This will not limit service or access to and from concourse level. There will be no train service on Track 4, which will be occupied by equipment

Nov. 24 – 27: Moderate impacts to widths of Platform 12/13. This will not limit service or access to and from concourse level. There will be no service on Track 7, which will be occupied by equipment

Crews will be performing this work throughout the weekend, some of which may take place during times when GO service is operating.
