Let’s go higher than the trees.

Metrolinx recently partnered with Parks Canada and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) to plant over 12,000 trees and shrubs at Rouge National Urban Park in preparation for the GO Expansion program. And new drone footage shows an interesting perspective on the work.

The video shows the sheer size of the planting site.

This initiative is part of a larger program in which Metrolinx works closely with conservation authorities and municipalities on ecological compensation and increasing the region’s tree canopy.  Through partnerships with Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA), Conservation Halton and TRCA, in 2020 Metrolinx funded and coordinated the planting of more than 22,100 native trees and shrubs.

Metrolinx says this is part of the agency’s commitment to sustainability and actually goes above and beyond the regulatory requirements to increase the vegetation cover across the region.

Stay tuned for updates as planting efforts will resume in the spring.
