Oakville GO Station gets a lift as new elevators set to open

After months of intense work the new elevators have been successfully installed at Oakville GO.

Starting today (June 24), GO train customers can climb aboard brand new elevators at Oakville station.

The new lifts give customers more efficient and reliable access to the train platforms at what is traditionally one of GO’s busiest stations. This is particularly big news for customers with mobility issues, as there had been no elevator access to the train platforms at Oakville GO during the construction.

While replacing the elevators is done, construction crews are continuing to work on installing new digital signs on the south side of the bus loop at each of the five bus platforms that serve GO Transit buses (bus platforms 4 to 8). That work is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

These upgrades are one piece of a broader construction program Metrolinx is carrying out across the region as part of the GO Expansion project.  As train service is increased, Metrolinx is enhancing the safety and accessibility at existing stations.

The GO Expansion project will increase the frequency and number of GO trains across the rail network, reduce congestion and connect a growing region with fast, reliable transit options to get people where they need to go.
