Metrolinx gives away firewood in Whitchurch-Stouffville

Firewood giveaway is part of Metrolinx's vegetation management program

Oct 22, 2021

The price was right for Stouffville residents.

As part of Metrolinx’s vegetation management program, the transit agency, and its contractor GRASCAN recently gave away free firewood to members of the York Region community.

Metrolinx is in the middle of a large-scale expansion of GO Transit service across the region, and part of that work involves removing trees in order to expand transit. The wood is then given away, otherwise it would end up in a landfill.

More than 350 people loaded up their cars at the event, which ended up seeing 30 cords of wood given away. That’s enough to fill 1.5 standard shipping containers.
