A wall of heat that hits you even at the break of dawn. Straining your fingers to squeeze the tube for more sunscreen. And tan lines on the top of your feet that outline your favourite sandals.
Let’s just keep this good thing rolling – with some important updates and timely reminders as Ontario’s summer reaches an unofficial halftime mark with the August long weekend. And GO has added service for some big events, to ensure our customers get to their celebrations smoothly.
Occasional GO riders can also save time, by getting their round-trip GO tickets in advance electronically.
North America’s largest street festival, the Toronto Caribbean Carnival Festival’s Grand Parade, takes over the Lakeshore on Saturday, with an expected two million revellers from all over the world. GO Transit is a very popular choice for parade goers, and once again there will be extra train service to and from the parade.
- Service on the Milton, Kitchener, and Stouffville lines will include one Exhibition-bound trip and one homebound trip on Sat., Aug. 3.
As well, the Veld Music Festival, an annual electronic dance music and hip-hop event, will be in full swing. It’s expected to draw an estimated 30,000 people to Downsview Park on both Saturday and Sunday.
- GO will have modified service for both Sat., Aug. 3 and Sun., Aug. 4 night shows. The last train from Downsview Park will depart at 11:30 p.m. Check the website for all of our special GO service for the long weekend. com

PRESTO customers should make sure their card is topped up and get the PRESTO app for Android or IOS. And check out all the PRESTO Perks available, if you aren’t going to Veld or the carnival this weekend.
Given all the events, GO trains, buses and stations will be extra busy this long weekend. So give yourselves plenty of extra travel time and check for service updates before heading out the door.
Finally, it’s not just the parties that will be hot. Always travel with plenty of water, snacks and sunscreen. Additionally, when extreme heat hits the region, sometimes our trains may have to slow down to keep our customers safe (find out more here).
The best way to stay informed is by signing up for On The GO alerts, and by checking the GO Transit website can also follow their line specific handles on Twitter.
