Crossing Rehab Work on Elgin Mills Rd E in Markham
What is Happening?
To support state of good repair work, Metrolinx will be completing crossing rehabilitation work at the level crossing located on Elgin Mills Rd E. in Markham during a weekend pause on the Stouffville Line. This work includes removing and replacing the existing tracks, crossing surface and asphalt, followed by track repairs and paving.
To safely complete this work, Elgin Mills Rd E. will be fully closed at the level crossing for the duration of construction and local access will be maintained (see Figure 1). Clearly marked detour routes with signage will be in place to help direct traffic around the closure.
What to expect
- Where possible, lights from equipment will be positioned away from residential homes to keep light pollution levels low.
- Trucks and construction equipment may generate dust during construction.
- Crews will take precautions to monitor and reduce dust.
- Increased presence of construction vehicles and equipment can be expected in the work area.
- Work areas will be clearly marked or fenced off to ensure public safety.
- Please exercise caution around active construction sites.
- Work may be delayed or rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Traffic Changes
- Elgin Mills Road East at the rail crossing will be closed for the duration of the work. Signage will redirect traffic around the work zones.
Pedestrian Access
- Temporary sidewalk closures or pedestrian detours will be in place while the work is underway, with signs in place to direct pedestrians as needed.
Noise and Vibration
- Residences and businesses in the area may experience noise and vibration caused by construction equipment related to this work.
- Crews will take measures to minimize disruptions to the surrounding area wherever possible.
