What is Happening?
To prepare for future Scarborough Subway Extension construction, crews will be relocating wet utilities along Eglinton Avenue East, east of Midland Avenue. The work will be carried out around the clock on weekdays in order to expedite the work and minimize longer-term traffic impacts.
To minimize traffic impacts and reduce disruptions for drivers, pedestrians and nearby businesses, this work will be carried out in a number of stages, starting in the southernmost lane and working north. Each stage will last between two and six days. The final stage will be on the northern side of the Midland Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East intersection.
What to expect
- Where possible, lights from equipment will be positioned away from residential homes to keep light pollution levels low.
- Trucks and construction equipment may generate dust during construction.
- Work areas will be clearly marked or fenced off to ensure public safety.
- Work may be delayed or rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Traffic Changes
- Minor delays may be experienced near the work zone.
- Two-way directional traffic will be maintained during the work.
- A paid duty officer, flaggers and detour signs will be onsite to direct traffic as needed.
Pedestrian Access
- All pedestrian sidewalks will remain open throughout the work.
Noise and Vibration
- Residences and businesses in the area may experience noise and vibration caused by construction equipment related to this work.
- Crews will take measures to minimize disruptions to the surrounding area wherever possible.
Transit Service
- There is no anticipated impact to transit services.
