What is Happening?

As construction on the Hazel McCallion Line LRT continues to progress, crews continue to carry out work along Hurontario Street from Highway 407 ETR to Steeles Avenue. Ongoing construction activities in the coming months: energization of the traction power substation, guideway installations at remaining intersections and midblock ongoing work at stops and utility relocations. Some of this work may be scheduled overnight and on weekends for a variety of reasons including lower traffic volumes and weather-related impacts. We thank you for your patience and we work to deliver this transformative project.

What to expect

  • Construction lighting may be visible from the work site.
  • Where possible, lights from equipment will be positioned away from residential homes to keep light pollution levels low.
  • Trucks and construction equipment may generate dust during construction.
  • Crews will take precautions to monitor and reduce dust.
  • Increased presence of construction vehicles and equipment can be expected in the work area.
  • Work areas will be clearly marked or fenced off to ensure public safety.
  • Please exercise caution around active construction sites.
  • Work may be delayed or rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Traffic Changes

  • Two-way directional traffic will be maintained during the work.
  • A paid duty officer, flaggers and detour signs will be onsite to direct traffic as needed.
  • All businesses in the area will remain open during the work. Please follow signage for access.

Pedestrian Access

  • Temporary sidewalk closures or pedestrian detours will be in place while the work is underway, with signs in place to direct pedestrians as needed.

  • Clear and defined walking paths will be maintained during construction to ensure pedestrian safety.
