Davenport Diamond Guideway: Weekend Track Maintenance Works - May 2026

What is Happening?

Metrolinx will be carrying out track maintenance and repair work within the Barrie rail corridor between Bloor Street West and Davenport Road, including on the Davenport Diamond Guideway. Construction activities will include rail maintenance, electrical work, and communications utility work. This work will be completed over three separate weekend pauses in service (Major Track Closures) of the Barrie rail line in May on the following dates: 

  • Friday, May 1 to Monday, May 4, 2026
  • Friday, May 22 to Monday, May 25, 2026
  • Friday, May 29 to Monday, June 1, 2026

Rail service will resume on Monday morning after work is done.

What to expect

  • Where possible, lights from equipment will be positioned away from residential homes to keep light pollution levels low.
  • Trucks and construction equipment may generate dust during construction.
  • Crews will take precautions to monitor and reduce dust.
  • Increased presence of construction vehicles and equipment can be expected in the work area.
  • Work may be delayed or rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances
  • Trucks leaving the site will use a designated access point. .

Traffic Changes

  • No disruptions to traffic are anticipated.

Pedestrian Access

  • All pedestrian sidewalks will remain open throughout the work.

Noise and Vibration

  • Residences and businesses in the area may experience noise and vibration caused by construction equipment related to this work.
  • Crews will take measures to minimize disruptions to the surrounding area wherever possible.
  • Trucks accessing the site will be equipped with broadband backup alarms, which emit a less disruptive sound compared to traditional beeping backup alarms.
  • Catch basin sleeves will be used to protect sewers and active street sweeping near construction gates.

Transit Service

  • The Barrie GO rail line will be closed for the duration of the work. Signs will be posted to keep residents informed.
