What is Happening?

To support state of good repair work, Metrolinx crews will be performing rail maintenance work along the Barrie Line using a specialized rail milling machine. Rail milling removes surface defects and restores the rail head profile, by improving wheel rail contact and extending rail life. Work will begin near Highway 7 and proceed in stages south along the Barrie Line to Wilson Ave. with crews occupying one work area at a time. The work will primarily take place overnight when trains are not in service, and during planned major track closures (MTCs) on the Barrie Line, through the weekend of August 15-August 20.

What to expect

  • Please exercise caution around active construction sites.
  • Work may be delayed or rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Trucks leaving the site will use existing access points .
  • Trucks entering the site will use existing access points.
  • Truck activity is expected to be limited and will primarily occur overnight or during planned major track closures, using existing access points to remove residue from the work area

Traffic Changes

  • No disruptions to traffic are anticipated.

Pedestrian Access

  • All pedestrian sidewalks will remain open throughout the work.

Noise and Vibration

  • Residences and businesses in the area may experience noise and vibration caused by construction equipment related to this work.
