Service increases coming to the Kitchener Line in November
Oct. 20 – Beginning Nov. 23, Metrolinx is increasing service on the Kitchener Line, including introducing the first-ever weekend service to Kitchener GO.
Four weekend trips that previously ended at Mount Pleasant GO will extend to Kitchener GO starting next month. Weekend service between Union and Bramalea GO will increase to every 30 minutes, up from the current hourly service.
To better serve customer needs, weekday service enhancements will include:
- Two new weekday trips between Bramalea GO and Union Station.
- Extending one evening trip that previously ended at Guelph Central GO to Kitchener GO.
- Extending two trips that previously ended at Malton GO to Bramalea GO.
These improvements come on the heels of expanded rush-hour service on the Lakeshore East, Barrie and Stouffville GO Lines and the opening of Confederation GO, which has increased service on the Lakeshore West Line for customers in Hamilton and Niagara.
Future service improvements
Work along the Kitchener Line continues. Currently, GO trains primarily operate on a single track between Bramalea and Kitchener GO stations, limiting service on the Kitchener Line. In May 2022, Metrolinx began work to install a second track between the stations to enable two-way train operations.
Metrolinx has now entered into an agreement-in-principle to purchase a portion of track owned by CN Rail between Bramalea and Georgetown GO stations. This will allow Metrolinx to install a new track and related infrastructure—a critical step to unlocking two-way, all-day service on the Kitchener Line.
