Location of road closure on Eastern Avenue

What is Happening?

Construction crews will be applying sealant to the underside of the bridge on Eastern Avenue. Eastern Avenue will be closed overnight between Lewis Street and Dibble Street to accommodate this work.

Note to the community: Please note that this work can only be completed during dry weather conditions. If rain is forecast, the closure may be cancelled without further notice. A follow up notification will be delivered to communicate rescheduled dates.

What to expect

  • Where possible, lights from equipment will be positioned away from residential homes to keep light pollution levels low.
  • Increased presence of construction vehicles and equipment can be expected in the work area.
  • Work areas will be clearly marked or fenced off to ensure public safety.
  • Please exercise caution around active construction sites.
  • Work may be delayed or rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
  • The epoxy compound used as a sealant for this work emits a smell that may be noticeable in the area near the work. This smell is expected to decrease as the compound cures, a process which typically takes between 24-72 hours. This potential impact is being mitigated by application with a paint roller rather than a spray. Also, engineers and labour crews will perform tests on-site prior to the road closure and assess this potential impact and prepare mitigations where possible.

Traffic Changes

  • Eastern Avenue between Lewis Street and Dibble Street will be closed for the duration of the work. Signage will redirect traffic around the work zones.

Pedestrian Access

  • Pedestrian detours may be required, with signs in place to direct pedestrians as needed.

Noise and Vibration

  • Residences and businesses in the area may experience noise and vibration caused by construction equipment related to this work.
  • To minimize noise impacts on the community, noise monitoring equipment will be installed prior to construction. These devices will help to detect exceedances early to proactively conduct corrective actions as needed while crews work.
  • Trucks accessing the site will be equipped with broadband backup alarms, which emit a less disruptive sound compared to traditional beeping backup alarms.

Transit Service

  • There is no anticipated impact to transit services.
