GO Train on the tracks

Kitchener Line GO Expansion

Heritage Road Layover

Expanding Capacity on the Kitchener Line.

The Heritage Road Layover is a vital infrastructure project supporting GO Expansion on the Kitchener Line. Once complete, this facility will provide storage for four 12-car trains, allowing for longer trains during peak periods, which will increase seating capacity to accommodate future ridership growth.

Strategically located between Georgetown and Mount Pleasant GO Stations, this new facility will improve future service efficiency and ensure trains are readily available for service when needed. Without this new layover the additional trains needed for future two-way, all-day service would travel empty from Etobicoke to Georgetown for morning operations.

As service expands on the Kitchener Line, additional storage capacity is required to support more frequent and reliable GO Train service. The Heritage Road Layover will enable:

  • More peak-period, peak-direction service to and from Mount Pleasant GO Station, giving customers more travel options.
  • Increased train storage capacity, allowing for longer trains with more seating availability.
  • Greater service efficiency, reducing non-revenue train movements and ensuring better use of rail resources.
  • A balanced approach to rail operations, accommodating both passenger and freight needs along the corridor.

This improvement ensures that GO Transit can continue to provide fast, efficient and reliable transit options for Kitchener Line customers as demand for service grows.

Heritage Road Layover is currently in construction. For more information on project phases, please check out our project lifecycle page.
