Major construction starts at Lawrence and McCowan station

August 5 - Another station on the Scarborough Subway Extension is beginning to take shape as crews have broken ground at Lawrence Avenue and McCowan Road for the future subway station.  

The new station will improve access to health care and employment opportunities, by providing a subway connection to Scarborough General Hospital, which is a major employer in Scarborough and provides vital healthcare for the community.  

Over 5,000 customers will use the new station during rush hour and will connect to nearly 3,500 jobs in the neighbourhood. The station will feature a bus terminal with connections to express services on Lawrence Avenue, expanding transit in east Toronto.  

The Scarborough Subway Extension will extend the TTC’s Line 2 subway 7.8 kilometres farther into Scarborough from Kennedy Station, with stations at Lawrence Avenue East and McCowan Road, Scarborough Centre and the terminal station north of Highway 401 at Sheppard Avenue East and McCowan Road.   

With construction underway at Scarborough Centre Station and active tunnelling operations moving forward in the underground shaft at the future Sheppard and McCowan station site, it’s full steam ahead on this major rapid transit project.
