May 8 – With the FIFA World Cup 2026™ expected to bring approximately half a million additional GO Transit and UP Express riders during the tournament, Metrolinx is increasing service to help keep commuters and soccer fans moving safely and smoothly across the region.

Beginning Wednesday, June 10, 2026, GO service on the Lakeshore West and Lakeshore East lines will be increased to provide frequent, 15-minute service throughout most of the day, helping residents continue their regular commute during busy periods. Across the network, this will mean nearly 3,000 weekly GO trips available during the tournament.

What customers need to know:

  • Before and after Toronto match times, the Lakeshore West line will operate up to six trains per hour between Exhibition GO and Union Station.
  • GO bus service to Niagara Falls will be increased during the tournament period, with additional weekday and weekend trips to support regional travel.
  • Fans heading to FIFA Fan Festival™ Toronto can also use the official pedestrian routes to walk from Union Station.

Late‑night service will also be available on GO Transit and UP Express throughout the week, making it easier for customers to get home safely after evening matches and events.

  • Lakeshore West trains departing Union Station as late as 12:47 a.m.

Regular service on UP Express and the Lakeshore West and Lakeshore East lines returns on Monday, July 6, 2026.

Easy travel for visitors

Visitors can travel across the region easily with added GO Transit and UP Express service from Wednesday, June 10 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, connecting downtown Toronto, Pearson Airport and destinations beyond the downtown core. Late-night service on GO Transit and UP Express will offer added flexibility after evening matches and events.

To support regional travel, GO bus service to Niagara Falls will be increased, with nine additional trips every day on Route 12 during the tournament period and seasonal GO bus routes will continue to help customers reach other popular attractions. Regular service on Route 12 returns on Monday, July 20, 2026.

Frequent service for fans heading to the match

Exhibition GO Station is the closest GO station to Toronto Stadium (at Exhibition Place). GO Transit will operate enhanced service before and after Toronto matches, adding extra trips serving both Exhibition GO and Union Station. Customers can expect a train every 10-15 minutes between these stations to help fans arrive in time for kick-off and head home smoothly after the final whistle, moving crowds safely and reducing wait times.

Fans travelling from the east can take the Lakeshore East line to Union Station and transfer to Lakeshore West to continue their journey.

Walking option from Union Station

Customers travelling through Union Station can also use the official pedestrian route to reach the events. The scenic walk takes approximately 45 minutes to Toronto Stadium (at Exhibition Place) and about 30 minutes to FIFA Fan Festival™ Toronto, with wayfinding in place along the route.

Safety at the centre of every journey

Customers can expect crowding at key stations, including Exhibition GO and Union station before and after matches. To support safe and reliable travel, Metrolinx will have extra staff and wayfinding, to help guide customer movement.

Customers should follow staff direction and allow extra time for their journeys. Always stay behind the yellow line on platforms and never cross the tracks.

Customers not travelling to or from Exhibition GO for FIFA World Cup 2026™ events may wish to adjust their travel times to avoid the busiest periods.
