GO rail and bus service adjustments begin Sept. 5

Aug. 31 – Starting Sept. 5, there will be GO service adjustments on the Lakeshore East, Lakeshore West, Barrie and Stouffville rail lines, as well as for GO buses.  

These changes address seasonal adjustments to align service with demand, shift some rail service to bus as an interim measure to address the availability of train crews and provide an opportunity to use periods where trains aren't running to advance important work on the Barrie and Stouffville lines. 

Rush hour service will remain unchanged on all lines. 

These schedule changes support GO Transit’s rail partner with their advancement of crew training and certification, allowing recovery from high ridership demands experienced during FIFA and to provide the capacity for future service needs. These interim measures are expected to continue until spring 2027. 

For customers on the Barrie and Stouffville lines, additional bus service on replacement routes 65, 68 and 71 will help customers get to where they need to go when trains are not running.  

Customers travelling to and from Niagara Falls can use GO bus route 12 service, connecting to and from Lakeshore West Line service at Burlington GO. During off-peak periods, GO bus route 12 offers time savings of up to 25 minutes compared to rail trips due to ongoing track speed reductions between Niagara Falls and Hamilton. 

Metrolinx acknowledges these types of changes to service are challenging and appreciates customers' understanding and patience with these adjustments. 

Metrolinx will continue to closely monitor staffing levels and ridership and will provide as much notice as possible for any future changes to schedules. 

The transit agency is also adjusting GO bus service across the network to better meet customer needs, including increased seasonal post-secondary bus service across the region.
